Kim Opferbeck High School Special Education Teacher Grades 10-12
Ms. Opferbeck graduated from Salamanca High School and attended Buffalo State College. She has a Bachelors of Science and a Masters Degree in Education. She also has a certificate in Visually Impaired and Blind Education from D'Youville College. Ms. Opferbeck's special education career started with BOCES and then became an Ellicottville teacher ten years later. She currently lives in Boston, NY, however, she lived in Great Valley for ten years. In her free time, she enjoys sports; some of her favorite teams include the NY Yankees, Penn State, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Buffalo Sabres.
Carolyn Bauer Middle/High School Special Education Teacher Grades 7-9 Middle School English Teacher Grades 7-8
Mrs. Bauer grew up in Great Valley and attended Ellicottville Central School. She has an Associate's Degree in Social Science, a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, and a Masters Degree in Special Education. She is certified to teach Elementary Education, Special Education and English. Mrs. Bauer is also the peer tutor coordinator and the yearbook adviser. In her spare time, Mrs. Bauer enjoys spending time with her husband, who is a professional firefighter, and 4-year old son.
Therese Pierce Elementary Special Education Teacher K-5
Therese Pierce is our resource room teacher in the elementary wing. She teaches students with disabilities from Kindergarten through Grade 5. Although born and raised in Niagara County, she has lived in the Ellicottville area since 1984 and has called it "home" ever since. Mr. Pierce has been at ECS since 1991; prior to that she taught at the Ellicottville BOCES for seven years. She also spent two years teaching in West Virginia and one year in Utica, NY. Ms. Pierce has four children who have gone or are presently going up through the ranks of ECS; three have graduated and her youngest is in the 9th grade. She, her husband Jim, and her children live in Mansfield.
Jennifer Penski-Adams, MSPT Catt-Allegany BOCES Physical Therapist
Mrs. Penski-Adams is our Physical Therapist that works with students who have needs in the gross motor area. She has her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from D'Youville College. She has over ten years of experience with school based, pediatric physical therapy. She loves working with children and in her spare time she is busy taking care of three little ones at home.
